AN OVERVIEW OF CATHEDRAL CITY
Cathedral City is located in the Coachella Valley, nestled between Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage along the Highway 111 and Interstate 10 corridors. A vibrant working city, Cathedral City ranks in the top three cities in the Coachella Valley for population, retail sales, and total taxable sales.

Originally the home of the Cahuilla Indians, the Agua Caliente Tribe of Cahuilla Indians established their reservation in 1876, comprising 28% of Cathedral City. The town`s name dates back to 1850 when Colonel Henry Washington of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers noted the geographic landscapes made by the local canyons resembled the interior of a grand cathedral.

Delight in Vibrant Downtown

Beginning in the later 1990`s, Cathedral City`s downtown underwent a thorough revitalization project that was completed by 2005. Included in the revitalization was a newer City Hall as well as the addition of the Desert IMAX & Mary Pickford Theatre movie complex and 130 acres of new or remodeled businesses. The Desert IMAX building has since been renovated and is now home to the Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre. In addition, the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater opened in 2021 and offers a phenomenal open air experience with a variety of events taking place throughout the year, further cementing Cathedral City's plan to become a hub for arts and cultural experiences. If you're looking for high-stakes fun, Agua Caliente Cathedral City offers a litany of entertainment, including excellent food options, live music, and more.  Taking place each year, the Cathedral City Balloon Festival is one of several festivals to hit the main drag of Cathedral City. This epic weekend event draws thousands from the surrounding desert cities and distant parts to enjoy balloon rides, excellent fare, and more.
